Day 8, 1/05/02: Shocking News!

At last, my shocks were assembled. I chose trusty Traxxas Big Bore Teflon-coated aluminum shocks as always. (Little secret: The front shocks are actually the same ones originally used on the Phase I Ultimate Rustler.)

The first thing I did was to remove the outer coating with EZ-Off and sandpaper to give them a nice natural/brushed aluminum finish. I replaced the stock chrome shafts with MIP titanium-nitride coated hardened shafts for durability and smoothness. I used E/T-Maxx shafts with the long bodies for extra available suspension travel (in case I wanted to use it) and "long" shafts with the shorter-length bodies. I had to put some external up-travel limiters on the short shocks to keep them from ever-compressing.

To top it all off, I used RPM medium dual-rate pistons, modifying them to fit well using the tips from my review.
